Bangladeshi ISLM Professional Dr. Md. Mukhlesur Rahman receives double PhD

Dr. Md. Mukhlesur Rahman has received his second PhD in Knowledge Management area from the Graduate School of Advanced Science and Technology, Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (JAIST), Japan. Dr. Mukhles obtained this degree after fulfilment of a series of criteria of JAIST which includes compilation of course work, conducting a minor research project, the participation of international conferences, publishing research findings in international journals, writing up a dissertation, and defending the dissertation in several stages.

Mr Atikuzzaman was awarded a Gold Medal

Atikuzzaman awarded Gold Medal in the 52nd ConvocationThe 52nd convocation of the country’s largest education institution, Dhaka University was held on 9 December 2019. Mr. Md. Atikuzzaman was awarded a gold medal for his outstanding academic result in the department of Information Science and Library Management. The university’s Chancellor President Abdul Hamid presided over the grand event at the university’s central playground while the National Professor Anisuzzaman attended as the convocation speaker. Dhaka University conferred honorary Doctor of Laws degree to Dr Takaaki Kajita at the convocation ceremony.

Earlier Mr. Atikuzzaman was also awarded Lion Md. Jonab Ali and Farzana Jonab Gold Medal and TLT Young student award in 2019.

Ms Mashiat Tabassum has been promoted to Assistant Professor

Ms Mashiat Tabassum has been promoted to Assistant Professor of Dept. of Information Science and Library Management (ISLM), University of Dhaka (DU). Ms Tabassum joined Dept. of ISLM, DU as Lecturer in 2015.

Ms Tabassum completed her BA (Hons.) and MA in Information Science and Library Management from University of Dhaka. She has received numerous institutional awards as well as academic honours that include Dean’s Merit Award in 2014 as a recognition to obtaining the highest CGPA in BA Honours in the academic year 2011.

New Appointment at Dhaka University Library

Six library professionals have been appointed at Dhaka University Library recently. Ms Sadia Afroze, Mr Joy Charles Rozario, Mr Rubel Mia, Mr Hafizur Rahman and Ms Anwesha Jadab have been joined as Senior Cataloger and Ms Taslima Akter as Research Officer. Earlier Ms Sadia Afroze worked as Junior Assistant Librarian at BRAC University, Mr Joy Charles Rozario as Communication And Documentation Officer at Caritas Development Institute and as Executive at AIUB Library, Mr Rubel Mia as Library Officer at State University of Bangladesh (SUB), Ms Anwesha Jadab as Library Officer at Asian University for Women and Ms Taslima Akter at North South University Library.

All of the professionals have completed a BA and MA degree in Information Science and Library Management from the University of Dhaka.

Digital Access to Research Workshop of the UN Technology Bank held at SUST

A two-day Workshop on Digital Access to Research held on 6-7 November at SUST Research Centre, Shahjalal University of Science & Technology, SUST, Sylhet. The workshop was organised by the United Nations Technology Bank for the Least Developed Countries (UNTBLDC). It was the 2nd workshop of UNTBLDC in Bangladesh. The 1st one was held on 30-31 October at BUET, Dhaka.

The purpose of the workshop was to raise awareness about the Research4Life platform and to provide training on how to access and use the platform. Research4Life is the collective name for five research programmes viz. HINARI, AGORA, OARE, ARDI and GOALI,  managed by WHO, FAO, UNEP, WIPO & ILO, which provide developing countries with free or low-cost access to academic and professional content online including e-Books.
