ABM Shafiq Alam wins TLT Excellence Special Librarian Award 2021 (The Special Librarian of the Year Award)

The Library Association of Bangladesh (LAB) has selected ABM Shafiq Alam for the Special Librarian of the Year 2021 Award for his excellence in contributing to the Special Library arena. The award includes a crest, 10000 BDT, certificate and gifts by the event sponsor. Recipients of the award will be invited to an event at the Department of Information Science and Library Management, the University of Dhaka in due course. 

Mr Alam is currently working as a Senior Documentation Officer at Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies. Earlier, he worked as Librarian at, National Institute of Kidney Diseases & Urology, Sher-e –Bangla Nagar Dhaka. Earlier in his career, he worked as Library Assistant at BIRDEM Diabetic Association Hospital library, Dhaka in and as a research assistant in a couple of projects governed by BRAC research and development. He also worked as a Librarian and lecturer of library science Govt. Shahid Abdur Rab Teachers’ Training College, Barisal, Bangladesh.

Sazzadul Karim wins TLT Excellence Public Librarian Award 2021 (The Public Librarian of the Year Award)

The Dept. of Public Libraries, Ministry of Cultural Affairs has nominated Sazzadul Karim for the Public Librarian of the Year 2021 Award in recognising his accomplishment in the public library sector in Bangladesh. The award includes a crest, 10000 BDT, certificate and gifts by the event sponsor. Recipients of the award will be invited to an event at the Department of Information Science and Library Management, the University of Dhaka in due course. 

He has been working in spreading the public library movement among the country’s mass people through the public library’s different activities and campaigns since his joining the Dept. of Public Libraries, Ministry of Cultural Affairs.

Shah Abdul Kabej wins TLT Excellence Academic Librarian Award 2021 (Academic Librarian of the Year Award)

The award selection committee of the Library Association of Bangladesh (LAB) has nominated Shah Abdul Kabej for “TLT Excellence Academic Librarian of the Year Award for 2021” to contribute toward the Arena of Academic Library in Bangladesh. The award includes a crest, 10000 BDT, certificate and gifts by the event sponsor. Recipients of the award will be invited to an event at the Department of Information Science and Library Management, the University of Dhaka in due course. 

He is currently working as Deputy Librarian at the Central Library of the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET). Mr Kabej started his career as an Assistant Librarian at DUET in 1992 ad later in 2000, he joined his BUET and promoted to his current position. During this period, he was involved with numerous activities to make BUET Central Library a modern one. In 2003, institutionally, he registered the research4life and DOAJ, which was the first e-resources for the BUET Central Library. He also worked as a team member of the BUET Library to develop and customise the software named BUETLIB, which was established until the KOHA implementation. As a Sub-project Manager of HEQEP (2nd Phase) titled “Digitisation of the Central Library of BUET,” he played a vital role in establishing the RFID systems and digitisation systems in the BUET Library. Besides, the has played a crucial role in being a member of LiCoB (BIPC) in the year 2007 and set up the systems which is a big e-resource of BUET Central Library.

Inauguration of free online course ‘Python for research’ by BRBD

A free orientation class of ‘Python for Research’ was arranged by the popular Facebook group ‘Be Researcher BD-BRBD’ in Bangladesh. The program started at 7.00 pm on March 31, 2021, and ended at 8.10 pm. Out of 1061 registered researchers, teachers and students from more than 110 educational institutions in the country and abroad, 75 people were selected for the course through the online quiz and special rules.

2nd i-IKM conference is heading to Dhaka virtually

The Department of Information Studies and Library Management, East West University (EWU), Dhaka, Bangladesh, announced the 2nd International Conference on Information and Knowledge Management (i-IKM) scheduled to be held from 24-26 June 2021 virtually due to the pandemic situation. The conference will offer a pathway of quality information and knowledge management and dissemination updates from the key experts. It will run an opportunity to recognize the role of information and knowledge management.

This conference’s theme is “Information and Knowledge Management, Innovation and Awareness for Sustainable Library and Information Institutions.” The conference focuses on the importance of information and knowledge creation, store, capture, and pluralize to ensure the libraries and information institutions’ sustainability. It also concentrates on innovation and awareness in the libraries and information Institutions to cope with diversified situations.


The national and international scholars and practitioners from the LIS field are invited to submit their research paper at the conference. Professor Dr Mohammed Farashuddin Honorable Chief Advisor and Founder Vice Chancellor, East West University & Former Governor (Bangladesh Bank) is the advisor of the conference. And Dr Dilara Begum, Associate Professor and Chairperson of the Department of Information Studies and Library Management, EWU is the chair of the 2nd i-IKM conference.
