Four Library Professionals awarded ITEC scholarship in India

Ms. Tasnim Fatema, DGM, Bangladesh Bank Library, Mr. Rafiqur Rahman, Assistant Librarian, Rajshahi University Library,. Mr. Nonigopal Roy, Assistant Librarian, Rajshahi University Library and one of the contributory editor of The Librarian Times(TLT) and Mr. Maruf Hossen, Librarian, Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission have been awarded ITEC Scholarship to attend 2 week long Certificate Course on Total Solution for Integrated Library System & Institutional Repository at National Institute of Technical Teachers Training and Research (NITTTR) Chennai, India during 19-30 August 2019.Four Bangladeshi professionals awarding ITEC scholarship in a calendar year is another milestone in our library profession.

Dr. Md. Azizul Hakim Memorial Gold Medal launched at Dept. of ISLM, University of Dhaka

Another Gold Medal named “Dr. Md. Azizul Hakim Memorial Gold Medal” has been established in the Department. Ms Asuma Begum, wife of Late Dr. Md. Azizul Hakim founded the Dr. Md. Azizul Hakim Memorial Gold Medal Trust Fund. On the occasion, Cheque handover ceremony was held on July 31, 2019 at 10:00 am at the Office of the Honorable Vice Chancellor, University of Dhaka. A cheque worth BDT. 10 Lac was handed over to Professor Dr. Md. Kamal Uddin, Treasurer, University of Dhaka with the presence of Honorable Vice Chancellor, Professor Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman. Professor Dr. Abu Md. Delwar Hosain, Dean, Faculty of Arts, Md. Enamuzzaman, Registrar (Acting), Professor Dr. Kazi Mostak Gausul Hoq, Chairman of the Department and family members of Dr. Md. Azizul Hakim were present in the ceremony. Faculty Members of the Department were also present in the program.

This gold medal will be awarded to the highest CGPA achiever in B.A. (Hons.) final examination of the Department from 2019-2020 academic year.

Dr. Azizul Hakim was born on 4 January, 1949 in Alamdanga Thana under Chuadanga district. He has completed Post-Graduate Diploma and Master from the Department of Library Science. Later, achieved degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) from the Department of Library and Information Science in 1996. His research topic was “History, Problems and Prospects of Public Libraries in Bangladesh”. Dr. Azizul Hakim died on October 4, 2012 in Khulna.

Shariful Islam, Department of Information Science and Library Management, University of Rajshahi, attended  International conference on reshaping librarianship: Innovations and Transformation organised by Arignar Anna Central Library, Bharathiar University, Coimbatore, Tamilnadu, India on 16-17 August 2019 as valedictory speaker. Year plan of National Book Centre held

National Book Centre, Ministry of Cultural Affairs organized a year plan event at Tofazzal Hossain Manik Miah Auditorium on 31 July 2019. Chief Guest of the Event was Dr. Abu Hena Mostafa Kamal, NDC, Secretary, Ministry of Cultural Affairs. Especial guests of the event Mr. Farid Ahmed, President, Bangladesh Gyan O Sriginsil  Prokashok Samity  and Mr. Shyamol Pal, Vice President, Bangladesh Pustok Prokashok o Bikrata Samity. Training on Library based voluntarism held in Dhaka

Libraries Unlimited Project of British Council and Ministry of Cultural Affairs organised training on library-based voluntarism recently in Dhaka. The central concept is the power of community engagement for social development. Libraries Unlimited Programme is inspiring young people to make their own Social Action Projects for the development of public libraries in Bangladesh. It was an engaging conversation, indeed.

Drawing Words exhibition held in the city

As a part of the Drawing Words exhibition, the British Council Cultural Centre in collaboration with the Libraries Unlimited arranged a day-long training workshop for the Government Public Librarians recently in the city. Sara Mears, Programme Manager, facilitated this highly interactive workshop, Libraries Connected. The workshop mainly focused on family reading and how reading can be utilised for pleasure.

High Commissioner of Malaysia visits IUT Library

His Excellency Amir Farid Dato’ Abu Hasan, Acting High Commissioner, Office of the High Commission of Malaysia, Dhaka visited Islamic University of Technology (IUT) Library on 17 June 2019. Prof. Dr. Md. Anayet Ullah Patwari, Library in Charge described the library systems and services of IUT. High commissioner was pleased to see the Library Virtual Class Room, Library Information and Communication Technology Centre and other infrastructure facilities. He also talked with the different member state students during his library visit.

National Book Centre, Ministry of Cultural Affairs, has organized a series a activities including In house Training, seminar on contribution of books to implement Sonar Bangla, Book fair at Sylhet Divisional Government Public Library and Cox Bazar Book fair, seminar on Books on Muktijuddho Affairs and library movement to protect drug addiction. It is very much appreciated that within a very short period National Book Centre organizes the above mentioned activities.
