Biswanath Bhattacharjee, Library In-charge, Sir John Wilson School, Dhaka

Biswanath Bhattacharjee, Library In-charge of Sir John Wilson School, United City, Satarkul, Dhaka, has recently been qualified in the Bangladesh Bar Council examinations and become a member of the Dhaka Bar Association.

His first research article entitled “To Search for an Effective Model of Constitutional Court for Bangladesh: An Analysis” has recently been published in the University Journal of UITS (the University of Information Technology and Sciences).

After receiving his B.A.(Hons) and M.A. degree in Library and Information Science from the University of Dhaka in 2000, he obtained his second master’s degree in English from the Shanto-Mariam University of Creative Technology in the year of 2009. Later he obtained LL.B. & LL.M. from the UITS respectively in 2014 & 2016.

Library and Information professionals mourn death of LIS legend Dr Mirza Mohd. Rezaul Islam

Ahasan, Dhaka, 16 March 2019

The Library and Information professional legend, Dr Mirza Mohd. Rezaul Islam, Librarian, Islamic University of Technology (IUT), and Chairman, Bangladesh Association of Librarians, Information Scientists and Documentalists (BALID) has passed away on Friday, 15 March 2019 at 12:00 noon at Uttara Adhunik Hospital (Inna lillahi Oa Inna Ilahi Razeun).

On Monday, March 11, at around 7:00 am he was admitted to the Uttara Adhunik Hospital, Dhaka after he suffered a massive stroke.

He left behind his wife and two sons and a host of relatives, friends, colleagues and well-wishers to mourn his death. His first Namaz-e-Janaza was held on (15 March 2019) after Asr Prayers at Dhaka University Central Masjid and second Namaz-e-Janaza was held at Noor A Macca Mosque, Eastern Housing, Pallabi, Mirpur after Esha prayer of the same date. He was buried at Kalshi graveyard, Mirpur, Dhaka.

Session on Library Literacy held at Primeasia University Library

Primeasia University Central Library (PAUCL) organized a discussion session on the library system and use on February 26, 2019.

The session was focused not only the user’s library facilities but also focused more than just a place to find a good book and a quiet place to read.

Students of EEE and BBA were accustomed to a collaborative group work setting. This setting goal was to how university students can improve their knowledge through library-based individual or group study for class assignments and receiving other information.

Ms Zebunessa, Sr. Officer of Circulation explained how a student can be a member of the library. During the session, membership forms and rules of PAU Central Library were also distributed to the students.

Publication of new books by the Library Professionals and Academics in Amar Ekushey Boi Mela 2019

The month-long Ekushey Book Fair 2019 ended on Saturday 1 March 2019. The fair’s theme this year was “Bijoy 1952-71: New Phase”. A total of 499 publishers participated in the fair this year. Four thousand Eight Hundred and Thirty-Four new books were published during the fair. Even in the last day, 43 new books were released. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the fair on Bangla Academy premises.

Lekhok Bolchhi, a corner of the writer introduced in the fair where the writers could talk about their books for 20 minutes each.

A good number of library professionals and academics published their books this year. Among these, Professor Dr Kazi Mostak Gausul Hoq, Chairman, Department of Information Science and Library Management, University of Dhaka has written two books titled “Ami Tilotomma” and  “Mour Singasoner Shamratera”. The books get published by Adorn and Batighor.

The Library and Information Science (LIS) legend ADM Ali Ahammad is no more!

The Library and Information Science (LIS) legend Mr ADM Ali Ahammad, Vice president of Library Association of Bangladesh (LAB); Project Component Lead, British Council Unlimited Project is no more. He died on Sunday, March 3, 2019, at Square Hospital, Dhaka. He had a stroke while taking a training class at the British Council. Since then, he was undergoing treatment at Life Support at Square Hospital. The first namaz-e-janaza of AML Ali Ahammad was held on Tuesday at the Public Library, Dhaka. The 2nd namaz-e-janaza was held in Mymensingh and 3rd namaz-e-janaza was held at his village, Gafargaon. He left his one son and one daughter and wife Anjuman Ara Zakia in his family.

Bangladesh is going ahead based on four pillars – Zunaid Ahmed Palak

Zunaid Ahmed Palak, Hon’ble Minister of State for Information and Communication Technology Division, Bangladesh said “present government has taken several initiatives for making a Digital Bangladesh. The Government electronic portal is open for all and we are the owner of the largest web portal in the world. To create potential human resource government has set up more than nine thousand primary Sheikh Russell Digital Lab and Digital Classroom throughout the country. As a result, students are learning Information Technology from their beginning of education.”

Zunaid Ahmed Palak, was present as the Chief Guest of inaugural session of two days long Asia Open Access, Dhaka-2019 started from 6 March, at conference room Bangladesh Agricultural Research Council (BARC) which was organized by Bangladesh Agricultural Research Council (BARC) international conference with the support of Centre for Open Knowledge Repositories (COAR) and Asia open Access. The State minister also mentioned four pillars for development. The government has to work for big data, open data, robotics, internet of thinking, blockchain. People now avail of different services from different government offices through automation. At present internet users of our country is nine and a half crore whereas nine years back it was only 55 lac.  In the IT sector 10 lac, people are working. The government also working Union Parishad level also. However, in the response of Ms Kathleen Shearer, Executive Director, COAR regarding traffic issue minister said our young force converted it as a potentiality. Based on it, they launched it several rides sharing. He told the organizer, meet with me again with the workshop output.

Dr M. Baktear, Director, AIC, given the welcome address, Mr Kamalaranjan Das, additional Secretary MoA and Dr Wais Kabir, ED KGF were present as special guests of honour as well.
