Ahasan, Dhaka, 15 September 2018

The National Library of Bangladesh organized a ten-day long training course on Advanced Archival Record Management and Digital/ Modern Library Management from 3rd to 13th September 2018.

An inaugural session was held on 3rd September before starting the main session. Honourable minister, Mr Asaduzzaman Noor, Ministry of Cultural Affairs, MP was the Chief Guest of the session. Mr Dilip Kumar Saha, Director General, Department of Archives and Libraries, Bangladesh presided over the program. Mr Nitai Pado Das, Director, Department of Archives and Libraries also attended the session.

Sightseeing tour: A sight-seeing tour at Muktijoddha Museum and Sher e Bangla Agricultural University Library was the part of the training. Mr Jalam Uddin, the Training Coordinator, conducted these sight-seeing sessions.

Training Allowances: It was a non-residential program. The resource persons and participants both received allowances. The participants received Tk. 500/- each as daily allowance in this regard.

Closing Session: A closing session and certificate giving session were arranged for the participants on 13 September 2018. Total 53 participants received certificates from Md. Nasir Uddin Ahmed, Secretary, Ministry of Cultural Affairs, Government of the People’s Republic Bangladesh.

Annual general meeting of Annada Gobinda Public Library was convened at the library quad on Saturday, 8th September 2018. Aunjon Chowdhury, managing director of Square Toiletries and Machranga Television chaired the meeting.

“Our new generation children and students must be encouraged to become library oriented getting out from Facebook,” said the businessman.

He added that “Our new generation is attached inside the house by using Facebook. They should be brought out of the house and made attentive to read books.”

Abdul Matin Khan, the secretary general of the library presented the previous year’s general meeting’s decision and the 2017-2018 financial years cost of receipt and disbursement in the meeting.

Vice-president DabirUddin Ahmed, Rabiul Islam Robi, executive member M. SaidulHaqueChunnu, Professor Shibjit Nag, Muhammad AbulMasudLal, Rabiul Islam ChoubeDablu, KajiRafikulAlam, Advocate Md. Abdul Hannan, DrMonowarulAjij and Dr Md. Habibullah also delivered their speeches.

Former freedom fighter commander HabiburRahman, lifetime member and former headmistress of Pabna government girls’ high school Roksana Khanom, lifetime member and district cultural officer Marufa Monjuri Khan attended the meeting among others.

A two-day long training program from 11 September to 12 September 2018 was held at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) central library. Participants learned hands-on training on e-resources management and services. Mr Shah Abdul Kabej, Deputy Librarian, BUET conducted the training session as the resource person.

A total of 36 participants divided into two segments/phases (2nd phase11-12 Sep.) received the training. Subscribed, registered, consortium and open access resources were analyzed and discussed.

Romana Rahman Shithi, who is the ‘National Award’ winner for seven times for participating multi-cultural activities and also an outstanding student in the Department of Information Science and Library Management (ISLM) of University of Dhaka, has recently been appointed as a Lecturer at East West University.

Prior to this, she worked as a lecturer in Department of Library and Information Science at Lalmatia Mohila College, Dhaka. Romana also had experiences to work at different libraries in Bangladesh including Scholastica International School Dhaka, North South University Library, Dhaka University Library and BANSDOC Library.

Ms Shithi completed her B.A (Hons.) and Masters in Information Science and Library Management from the University of Dhaka with an excellent academic result. She is also an MPhil researcher in the same subject at the same university.

Ms Shithi became ‘National champion’ in reciting and acting in 2005, also achieved ‘Gold Medal’ as ‘National Best Child Artist’ from Bangabandhu Jatiyo-Sishu-Kishor-Sangskritik Protijogita and ‘Silver Medal’ as ‘Best Performer’ of ‘Sruti-Sangskritik Academy’.
