The Librarian Times enters its sixth year! What have we achieved in the last five years?

The Librarian Times entered its sixth year after completing its fifth successful years on 2nd February 2022!
In the last five years, TLT has made a significant contribution to the library profession, especially to the library sector in Bangladesh. What have we achieved in the last five years, if anyone asks us? We would say that TLT has launched several professional awards for Library Professionals for the first time in Bangladesh. TLT introduced the first library and information science webinar in the history of Bangladesh.
In addition, TLT played a role in taking the library profession to a higher level through increasing domestic and international collaboration.

Let us take a look at our achievements in 5 years.

As an Editor-in-chief, I would like to give all the credit for the success to TLT members who have been involved with TLT activities for the last five years.

TLT Awards giving ceremony was held on November 6, 2021

The librarian times award distribution ceremony was held on Saturday, November 6, 2021, at 10:30 AM at University of Dhaka.
TLT Awards, for the first time, was introduced in February 2018. The winners of TLT Awards for 2021 have been officially announced in April 2021, but there hasn’t been a separate event for the awards giving ceremony after the COVID-19 restrictions have been eased in Bangladesh.
Note that TLT awards committee for 2021 was formed with the collaboration of Library Associations of Bangladesh (LAB), Bangladesh Association of Librarians, Information Scientists and Documentalists (BALID), Medical Library Associations of Bangladesh (MedLAB), School Library Associations of Bangladesh (SLABD), Director-General, Department of Public Libraries and the dept. of Information Science and Library Management, the University of Dhaka and Rajshahi.

Call for write-ups: TLT has taken an initiative to publish a memorial book in memory of Dr. Md. Nazim Uddin

“When someone you love becomes a memory, the memory becomes a treasure.” Author: Unknown

Dr Nazim was a shining star and famous name in the library and information science community of Bangladesh. He was a Senior Manager and Head, Library and Information Services, International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh (icddr,b) passed away on 23 December 2020 at 10.00 PM in Dhaka (Inna lillahi Oa Inna Ilahi Razeun) due to complications from COVID-19.

He had very good friendships and professional relationships with the LIS professionals and academics nationally and internationally. We do not want to lose all those memories, love and emotions with Dr Nazim. As part of TLT’s initiative, we announced two new categories of TLT awards entitled “Dr Md. Nazim Uddin Memorial Student of the Year Award” and “Dr Md. Nazim Uddin Memorial Academic of the year award”, recognising industry professionals’ achievements and academic excellence in LIS education. Dr Md Nazim Uddin’s family generously supports the awards.

As declared earlier, we would like to publish a book in his memory to recognise Dr Nazim’s incredible works and his dedication to the LIS professionals.

Note that, Dr Md. Nazim Uddin obtained PhD degree from Jadavpur University, West Bengal, India. Before that, he completed his Diploma, and after that, he also completed a Master of Arts in Library Science from the University of Dhaka with a distinction.

Ms Razina Akhter, Librarian, Bangladesh Shishu Academy, has happily accepted our invitation to be the chief editor of the memorial book. Please Submit your write-up in proper given format along with your contact details. We want to make sure the publisher will follow the international standard when publishing the book.

Shah Abdul Kabej wins TLT Excellence Academic Librarian Award 2021 (Academic Librarian of the Year Award)

The award selection committee of the Library Association of Bangladesh (LAB) has nominated Shah Abdul Kabej for “TLT Excellence Academic Librarian of the Year Award for 2021” to contribute toward the Arena of Academic Library in Bangladesh. The award includes a crest, 10000 BDT, certificate and gifts by the event sponsor. Recipients of the award will be invited to an event at the Department of Information Science and Library Management, the University of Dhaka in due course. 

He is currently working as Deputy Librarian at the Central Library of the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET). Mr Kabej started his career as an Assistant Librarian at DUET in 1992 ad later in 2000, he joined his BUET and promoted to his current position. During this period, he was involved with numerous activities to make BUET Central Library a modern one. In 2003, institutionally, he registered the research4life and DOAJ, which was the first e-resources for the BUET Central Library. He also worked as a team member of the BUET Library to develop and customise the software named BUETLIB, which was established until the KOHA implementation. As a Sub-project Manager of HEQEP (2nd Phase) titled “Digitisation of the Central Library of BUET,” he played a vital role in establishing the RFID systems and digitisation systems in the BUET Library. Besides, the has played a crucial role in being a member of LiCoB (BIPC) in the year 2007 and set up the systems which is a big e-resource of BUET Central Library.
