38 District Public Libraries receive book donation from Aloghar

Aloghar, a project supported by the Development Initiative for Social Advancement (DISA) donated books to the 38 selected public libraries across the country at Poet Shamsur Rahman Seminar Hall in Bangla Academy on May 21, Tuesday.

Planning minister MA Mannan was the chief guest, while former governor of Bangladesh Bank Atiur Rahman, MP Ferdousi Islam Jicasi and CDF Executive Director Abdul Awal were present as special guests.

The Bangla Academy Director General Habibullah Sirajee presided over the program and Chief Executive Officer at DISA, Shahid Ullah delivered a welcome speech in the ceremony. MA Mannan said, “The book is our true friend. The initiative taken by the Aloghar (lighthouse) to take the friend to the house, to read in a beautiful environment, is highly appreciated”.

Atiur Rahman said, “There is no alternative to the disease to deal with infectious diseases. To increase knowledge, to study history-heritage-culture, read books”. Habibullah Siraji said that to know Bangladesh better, it must be read the correct history. Sahid Ullah said that knowledge will not develop if the book is kept in the house by publishing it. The book has to be spread all over.

With that aim, the library is donating books to the different public libraries of the country. It was informed in the ceremony that books were given in 38 public libraries of 28 districts of the country.
