The Canadian University of Bangladesh arranged a rally in connection with World Book Day at Banani road 11 on April 23, 2019. The theme of the day was “everything you need to know.” Professor Dr Mohammad Mahfuzul Islam, Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr Nazrul Islam, Pro-Vice Chancellor and Sheikh Mozaffar Hossain, Treasurer, Mr Bahauddin Muhammad Isa, Acting Registrar of the Canadian University of Bangladesh were present in the rally as Special Guests.  A large number of students, librarians and Faculty members of the Canadian University of Bangladesh also attended the rally.

Each year, on 23 April, celebrations take place all over the world to recognize the scope of books – a link between the past and the future, a bridge between generations and across cultures. UNESCO introduced the day since 1995. This date was a natural choice for UNESCO’s General Conference, held in Paris in 1995, to pay a world-wide tribute to books and authors on this date, encouraging everyone to access books. On this occasion, UNESCO and the international organizations representing the three major sectors of the book industry – publishers, booksellers and libraries.

In Bangladesh too, the book-loving community including librarians, writers, and publishers are observing the day by taking various programs like colourful rally, discussion meeting, book reading competition amongst students, recitation, storytelling, essay writing competition, etc. It is really appreciated that the Canadian University of Bangladesh has given emphasis and importance to celebrate the day.
