International Conference on Information and Knowledge Management held in Savar, Dhaka

The first International Conference on Information and Knowledge Management was held from 25 to 27 April 2019 at the Bangladesh Public Administration Training Center (BPATC). The conference was organised jointly by BPATC and the East West University Information Studies and Library Management Department.

There were 30 invited speakers from around 25 countries, 170 paper presenters and nearly 350 participants attended the conference. The planning minister MA Mannan inaugurated the conference as the chief guest on April 25 (Thursday). 
Former Governor of Bangladesh Bank and founder Vice Chancellor of East West University Dr Mohammad Farashuddin was the inaugural keynote speaker. Vice-Chancellor Professor Fakhrul Alam was present as the special guest while Dr M Aslam, Rector of BPATC presided over the function.
The second day of the conference began on Friday with a full-fledged session, where Dr Christine Bruce, Professor and Michael Siddle, PhD (online presentations) presented the keynote statement. Later in the day, 12 technical sessions were held in different rooms of BPATC.

The second day of the conference (27 April) began on Saturday through a full-fledged session, where Dr Adrianna Albertati (online presentations) and professor Kamrul Alam’s keynote speech were presented.

The next day, four technical sessions, two sessions on lightning talks, and poster presentation sessions were held. On the same day, the closing ceremony of the i-IKM-2019 was held in the evening. Mohammad Abul Kalam Azad, Principal Coordinator (SDG Affairs), was the chief guest on this occasion. The conference Adviser M Aslam Alam, Rector, BPATC was present as the chair of the closing ceremony.

At the end of the closing ceremony, a cultural night for the foreign guests was organised in BPATC’s Mini Auditorium to symbolise the pride the people of Bangladesh tradition and culture.

A total of 88 papers were presented at the Conference which includes 5 Keynotes paper. Along with these, 18 Pechakuchas (Lightning talk) and 12 Poster Presentation were conducted from 26 April-27 April 2019.
Dr Dilara Begum, Associate Professor and Chairperson, Department of Information Studies and Library Management was the chair of this conference.
“I must say that the intellectual contribution made to this Conference has added a new dimension to the field of Information and Knowledge Management in Bangladesh. This was a small step towards a bigger goal. We hope to continue this journey in the future and highlight our profession to the world.” -said Dr Dilara Begum.
