International Museum Day observed across the Country

Every year on 18 May, since 1977 International Council of Museums (ICOM) coordinates the celebration of International Museum Day (IMD). This year more than 37,000 museums across 158 countries observe this day with the theme of: ‘Museums as Cultural Hubs: The Future of Tradition’ with great enthusiasm.

On this occasion, Bangladesh National Museum, Bangladesh Liberation War Museum, Asiatic society Bangladesh and many others mark this day with different programs like rally, procession, competition, meeting, discussion etc.

Bangladesh National Museum has launched a new gallery of weaponry on 18 May, Monday on this occasion. Artist Hashem Khan, Chairman, Bangladesh National Museum BoT, inaugurated the gallery, while a seminar has been held by the discussant Dr AKM Shahnewaz, Professor, Department of Archaeology, Jahangirnagar University, Ali Imam, writer-historian-researcher, Dr Sonia Nishat Amin, one of the members of BoT, BNM and Professor Munstassir Mamoon, writer- historian, among others.

Liberation War Museum also celebrated the Day with discussion and cultural event in its auditorium to mark the occasion.
Jahangir Hossain, President, Bangladesh National Committee of International Council of Museums and Tamanna Rahman, eminent dance artiste-choreographer were present as discussants, while Rabiul Hussain, Member Secretary, Liberation War Museum gave the welcome speech at the event.


Udayan Academy and Satyen Sen Shilpigoshthi also presented cultural presentation like individual and chorus music after the discussion.
