Library Association of Bangladesh (LAB), Rajshahi Division held a big reunion!

A professional reunion of the Library Association of Bangladesh (LAB), Rajshahi division was held on March 22, 2019. The reunion took place at Simanta Abokash picnic resort on the bank of Padma river, Rajshahi.

Around 60 library professionals participated in the event from the different districts of Rajshahi Division. The participants’ were mainly from universities, colleges and school libraries. There were also some prominent professionals who were previously elected leaders (i.e. Ex-Divisional Councilor of Dhaka in LAB, Mr Md. Abu Sayed, now serving as a Deputy Director of Divisional Govt. Public library, Rajshahi; Ex-Divisional Councilor Md. Golam Mostofa, now serving as Deputy Director of Rajshahi University Agricultural Institute Library; Mr Mahfujur Rahman Ex-Divisional councillor of Rajshahi, now serving as a librarian of Rajshahi Metropolitan college; immediate Ex-Divisional councillor of Rajshahi, Mr Md. Boshir Uddin, now serving as a librarian of Rajshahi Govt. City college) participated in the reunion. Some professionals who are representing the public, special and medical libraries were also present in the reunion. The majority number of professionals were from Rajshahi, Chapainawabganj, Sirajganj and Pabna districts.

The first session was started after a Jummah Prayer at 2.30 pm by gracing the senior library professionals who lectured on their previous experiences working with LAB and delivered enthusiastic talks for the new professionals to uplifting LAB to its expected height.

At the very outset of the first session, a special prayer session was carried out in remembrance of three deceased professionals whom we lost recently followed by a ‘one-minute silence’ observation.

After the lunch and subsequent feelings expression, a cultural program was held by the spontaneous participation of the professionals. Out of the performers, Mr Md. Masud Rana, Librarian, District Govt. Public Library, Chapainawabganj sang a Bengali song of Kumar Sanu ‘Tomai ki konodin bolechi’. Then gradually Mr Boshir Ahmed, Shahjahan, and two other professionals sang songs of their choices. After the excitement of the singing, there were a number of poem recitations by two of the professionals. Among them, current divisional councillor Mr Mahbub Alom recited a nice poem of Jibonananda Das named ‘Natorer Bonolota Sen’. Then another professional from the medical library recited a poem which was written by herself.

Several gifts hampers were handed over followed by a raffle draw. There were also consolation prizes for all the professionals who attended the reunion.

The reunion concluded with expressing participants lovely feelings for the wonderful arrangement. Everyone was so pleased to present the event and wished for the next grand one!
