Monirul Islam wins TLT Excellence Medical Librarian Award 2021 (The Medical Librarian of the Year Award)

The Medical Library Association of Bangladesh has selected Monirul Islam for the Medical Librarian of the Year 2021 Award for excellence in contributing to Bangladesh’s medical library arena. The award includes a crest, 10000 BDT, certificate and gifts by the event sponsor.

Mr Islam is working as Librarian in Army Medical College, Chattogram. He started his career as an Assistant Library Officer at Daffodil International University in 2011, and later in 2013; he was promoted to Library Officer. He was also an adjunct faculty of Library and Information Science at the International Islamic University of Chittagong from 2017 to 2019.

He obtained both a Bachelor and Master of Arts in Information Science & Library Management from the University of Dhaka. Later, he received a Master of Philosophy in Information Science & Library Management from the Department of Information Science & Library Management from the University of Dhaka. He is currently pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy program in the same discipline.

He has published six journal articles, four book chapters and eight conference papers. He has received several awards, including the Medical Library Association India conference grant 2019, ICAL travel grant 2018 and University of Nottingham Malaysia International Workshop travel grant 2018.

He has been actively involved with the national and international associations, including the Association for Information Science and Technology (ASIS&T), Library Association of Bangladesh (LAB), Bangladesh Association for Librarians, Information Scientists and Documentalists (BALID) and Library Association of Chittagong.

Mr Monir is an editorial member of The Librarian Times and correspondence of The Librarian Voice.

Recipients of the award will be invited to an event at the Department of Information Science and Library Management, the University of Dhaka in due course.
