Rihana Khatun wins Dr. Md Nazim Uddin Memorail LIS Student of the Year Award (The LIS Student of the Year, University of Rajshahi )

The Department of Information Science and Library Management, Rajshahi University, Bangladesh, has nominated Raihana Khatun for the Dr Md. Nazim Uddin Memorial Award: Student of the year award, 2021.

Raihana Khatun has completed B.S.S. (Honors) with CGPA of 3.64 (on a scale of 4) in 2018 and M.S.S. with a CGPA of 3.76 (on a scale of 4) in 2019 in Information Science and Library Management, University of Rajshahi, Bangladesh. In both the B.S.S. (Honors) and M.S.S. program, she secured the first position with the highest CGPA. Besides this academic achievement, she also took part in extra-curricular activities of the department.

She is keenly interested in researching the L.I.S. field. She has completed a research monograph entitled “Effectiveness of Bangladesh National Dailies for Providing Health Information: A Study on Female Students of Rajshahi University” as part of partial fulfilment of the B.S. S. (Hons.) program.

She has expertise in computer application courses such as Linux O.S., KOHA (Library Automation Software) and Green Stone Digital Library (GSDL) Software. She has completed her internship program at Bangladesh National Scientific and Technical Documentation Centre (BANSDOC), Dhaka. Moreover, she accomplished a thesis in the M.S.S. program entitled “Present State of Awareness of Medical Students in Participating e-Learning Program: A Study.”

Dr Md. Nazim Uddin Memorial LIS Academic of the year award and Dr Md. Nazim Uddin Memorial Student of the Year Awards have been newly added to TLT initiative, recognising industry professionals’ achievements and academic excellence in LIS education. The award includes a crest, 10000 BDT, certificate and gifts by the event sponsor.

Dr Md. Nazim Uddin was a senior manager and head, library and information services at International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh (icddr,b) who passed away on 23 December 2020 in Dhaka due to complications from COVID-19. To remembrance his outstanding contribution to the LIS profession Dr Md. Nazim Uddin’s family is generously supporting this award prize money.
