Eleven LIS professionals awarded for their significant contributions to the library profession

The 23rd General Meeting of the Bangladesh Association of Librarians and Information Scientists and Documentatlis (BALID) conferred ‘BALID Tributes’ on 11 eminent persons for their significant contributions to the country’s library profession.
On 27 November 2021, at a ceremony held at Shaheed Munier Chowdhury Auditorium, Teachers and Students Centre of the University of Dhaka under the chairmanship of BALID Chairman Ms Hajera Rahman.

The awardees were given a crest of honour. The award recipients are as follows:

  • Begum Akhtar Jahan, a life member of BALID and a former Member of Parliament
  • Dr Md. Anwarul Islam, Librarian, Sher E Bangla Agriculture University
  • Md. Mostafizur Rahman, former chairman of BALID & Prof. Royal University of Dhaka
  • Late Dr Mirza Mohammad Rezaul Islam, former chairman of BALID
  • Mr Abu Md. Hannan Mia, Librarian, Ministry of Law
  • Mr Abul Mazdar Mahfuz Ahmed, President, Nationalized and Private Educational Institutions Library Association (Angel)
  • Mr AFM Kamrul Hasan, President of Bangladesh School Library Association
  • Mr AKM Mofizur Rahman, Executive Director, Community Development Library
  • Mr Sasank Kumar Singha, former Secretary-General, BALID & Joint Director, Bangladesh Bank Library
  • Mr Syed Ali Akbar, Director, TSC, University of Dhaka
  • Dr SM Zabed Ahmed, Dept. of Information Science and Library Management, University of Dhaka

These library professionals have been awarded for their long years of movement and working on the returning the school librarians status as teachers through a government order.
