The Department of Public Libraries tributes to Kazi Nazrul Islam

On the occasion of the National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam’s 122nd birth anniversary, the Department of Public Libraries hosted a virtual discussion and cultural program on 25 May 2021.
The program was divided into two parts. The first part was a discussion session on the national poet and the second part was a cultural program.
Md. Badrul Arefin, honourable Secretary of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs inaugurated the discussion session and cultural program as the chief guest while Asim Kumar Dey, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Cultural Affairs, was a present as the special guest.
Md. Abdullahil Baki, Joint Secretary of the Department of Public Libraries delivered his welcome speech. In his welcome speech Abdullahil Baki said, Nazrul’s poems are deeply imbued with a sense of humanism, justice and rebellion against oppression.
The second part featured with musical performances and poetry recitals by the officials and employee of the department.
Md. Tajmul Islam, Librarian, District Govt. Public Library Narail and Sazzadul Karim, Librarian, District Govt. Public Library Sherpur delivered their speech about Nazrul’s biography. They focused on how Nazrul’s songs and poems were the inspiration during the liberation war of Bangladesh. He was the poet of rebellion against injustice and taboos.
Horendranath Basu, Director of the Department of Public Libraries, Dr. Mohammad Harun or Rashid, Assistant Director, DPL, Md Shahidul Alam, Librarian, DPL, also presented Nazrul’s various activities and his contribution to the country.
Rafia Sultana, Librarian, District Govt Public Library Manikganj recited the poem ‘Proloyollash, and Md K.M. Mehedi Hasan recited the famous ‘Bidrohi’ poem.
A Gazals was performed by Mr Al-Mamun Howlader, Librarian of the District Govt Public Library Satkhira. Besides, Mr Md. Masud Rana, Assistant Director, Divisional Public Library, Rajshahi sang a Islamic song.
A total 98 officials and employee of the department participated in this virtual event.
The program was presided by Md. Abu Bakar Siddique, Director General of The Department of the Public Libraries and conducted by Md. Hamidur Rahman, Assistant Director, the Department of the Public Libraries.
