Department of Public Libraries under the ministry of Cultural Affairs organised a Doa and Iftar Mahfil on 26 May 2019 at Seminar Room, Department of Public Libraries, Shahbag, Dhaka.

The Chief Guest of the event was Dr Abu Hena Mostafa Kamal, NDC, Secretary(In Charge), Ministry of Cultural Affairs. Mr Md. Abdul Mannan Ilias, Director General, Department of Public Libraries conducted the event. Ms Kristy Crawford, Project Director, Libraries Unlimited and a good number of professionals were present of that event.

Birth anniversary of national poet celebrated across the country

The 120th birth anniversary of the national poet, Kazi Nazrul Islam, was celebrated in the country on Saturday. The government, different libraries including National Book Centre, department of public libraries and different socio-cultural, and political organisations, arranged elaborate programs to observe the day. This year’s theme of the birth anniversary is “Bangabandhu’s Bangladesh in Nazrul’s Conscience.”

Seminar on ‘Our Expectation to National Book Centre’ held at CIRDAP International Convention Centre

A seminar titled ‘Our Expectation to National Book Centre’ was held at CIRDAP International Convention Centre on May 30, 2019. The seminar was organised by the National Book Centre and presided by Dr Abu Hena Mostafa Kamal, Secretary in charge, Ministry of Culture Affairs, Bangladesh. Dr Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury, Chief Co-ordinator, National Implementation Committee of Bangabandhu’s birth centenary was present as the special guest, while Minar Mansur, Director, National Book Centre presented a welcome speech on the event.

Ministry of Cultural Affairs, Bangladesh organises Iftar and Doa Mahfil

The Ministry of Cultural Affairs, Bangladesh organised an Iftar and Doa Mahfil at Shawkat Osman Hall, Central Public Library, Shahbag, Dhaka on 27 May 2019.

State Minister for the Cultural Affairs K M Khalid was present as the Chief Guest while the program was presided by Acting Secretary of Cultural Ministry Dr Md Abu Hena Mostafa Kamal. A good number of dignitaries, including Mr Ashish Kumar Sarkar, Ex-Director General (Additional Secretary), Department of Public Libraries, Ministry of Cultural Affairs, Muntasir Mamoon, writer-historian and professor and many others were present at the event.

Prize giving ceremony held at Sherpur District Government Public Library

District government public library Sherpur organised a book reading competition and prize-giving ceremony on 28 May 2019. The event was organised under the project ‘Online Library management and Development’ directed by Department of Public Libraries. Mr Md. Firoz Al Mamun, UNO, Sherpur Sadar attended the program as the chief guest while  Mr Abdul Kadir, Assistant Professor (Bangla), Sherpur Govt. College and Md. Salahuddin, Upazilla Academic Supervisor, Sherpur Sadar were attended as special guests on that event.

Book reading and prize giving ceremony held at Sonargaon, Narayanganj

Department of Public Libraries has initiated several projects including Public Library management and development through online. Under the mentioned project, readers are connected up to the Upazila level. Recently, they have organised a book reading competition and prize distribution ceremony throughout the country.

International Museum Day observed across the Country

Every year on 18 May, since 1977 International Council of Museums (ICOM) coordinates the celebration of International Museum Day (IMD). This year more than 37,000 museums across 158 countries observe this day with the theme of: ‘Museums as Cultural Hubs: The Future of Tradition’ with great enthusiasm.

On this occasion, Bangladesh National Museum, Bangladesh Liberation War Museum, Asiatic society Bangladesh and many others mark this day with different programs like rally, procession, competition, meeting, discussion etc.

Bangladesh School Library Association, Satkania Upazila, Chattagram organized a discussion session and Iftar Mahfil on 20 May 2019 at Satkania Ideal High School.

Mr Mohammad Zubair, Mayor, Satkania Pourosova was the Chief Guest while Mr Mohammad Anwar Hussain, Divisional councillor, Library Association of Bangladesh, Chattagram was the main speaker. A good number of local dignitaries, political leaders attended the event. Mr Mohammad Iqbalur Rahman conducted the session.

Prize giving ceremony held at Joypurhat District Government Public Library

District government public Library Joypurhat arranged a prize-giving ceremony on 22 May 2019 of the financial year 2018-19 of different national programs celebration.

Programs include essay writing, good handwriting, storytelling etc. Several government officials were present as Chief and special guests while Mr Md. Rokonuzzaman, Librarian of the said library presided over the program. Different age groups from local school and college level students participated in the competition.
