Student exchange program: Malaysian delegates visit the ISLM Department

To explore the possibility of fostering faculty/student exchange program and collaboration between the Department of Information Science and Library Management (ISLM), University of Dhaka, and the Faculty of Information Management, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Malaysia are in a stage to start. This exchange program is aiming to bring together researchers, academicians and LIS students of the University of Dhaka and UiTM to present their research results and academic activities. This platform provides opportunities for the delegates to exchange new ideas and experiences face to face, to establish research relations and to find further opportunities for future collaboration. Through this reciprocal activity, it is hoped that the staff and students from both institutions would be able to enrich knowledge, get insight into the Bangladeshi and Malaysian educational systems, develop professional individuality and experience life in a foreign land.

An international symposium on “Empowering the Library and Information Professionals for Achieving the SDGs” held at Dhaka University

An International Symposium on “Empowering the Library and Information Professionals for Achieving the SDGs” co-organised by the Department of Information Science and Library Management, University of Dhaka and the Association of Information Science and Technology (ASIS&T) South Asia Chapter was held on 10 February 2020 at Muzaffar Ahmed Chowdhury Auditorium, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Dhaka.

In the opening ceremony of the symposium, Professor Dr Md. Akhtaruzzaman, Honourable Vice-Chancellor, the University of Dhaka attended as the chief guest. Professor Dr Abu Md. Delwar Hossain, Dean, Faculty of Arts, University of Dhaka attended the event as the special guest. Chairman of the Department of Information Science and Library Management Professor Dr Kazi Mostak Gausul Hoq presided over the inaugural session.

The keynote paper was presented by Dr Samuel K. W. Chu, Associate Professor, Teacher Education and Learning Leadership, Faculty of Education, University of Hong Kong. The keynote title was Challenges and Opportunities for Information Professionals to Achieve UN Sustainable Development Goals mainly focused on how Information Professionals can help make an impact on ending poverty, good health and well-being, quality education and innovation.
