Prize giving ceremony held at Sherpur District Government Public Library

Ahasan, Dhaka, 17 May, 2019

District government public library Sherpur organized a prize-giving ceremony on 06 May 2019 of the financial year 2018-19. The event was organised to celebrate different national days including International Mother Language Day, National Children’s Day, Independence and National Day, and Bangla New year 1426.

Several government officials were present as special guests while Mr Sazzadaul Karim, Librarian of the said library presided over the program.

TLT board helps students and library professionals succeed, by offering programs like TLT Sponsored Scheme Scholarship Award 2018. The board announced the first winner of the TLT Sponsored Scheme Scholarship Award 2018 on 8 April 2018. Today, I am pleased to share my experience with this award how this helped me in my student life.

Words are used for communication with people, mutual understanding, expressing the feeling of a person, but I don’t have any word to express my heartiest gratitude for obtaining TLT Sponsored Scheme Award 2018.

EWU Library Professionals complete online course titled “Research Writing in the Social Sciences”

Three library professionals from East West University (EWU) namely Mr Tahur Ahmed, Mr M. Abdul Gani, and Ms Afrin Sultana have completed the online course titled “Research Writing in the Social Sciences” on 10 May 2019 organized by INASP and AuthorAID.

The course consisted of six units embarking on a research project, research and publication ethics, evidence base for a paper, preparing to write a research paper, writing a research paper and publishing a paper in a journal. The course was run between 26 February to 15 April 2019 (7 weeks).

The Creative Commons Summit 2019 was held in Lisbon, Portugal. Creative Commons Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Ryan Markley inaugurated the summit and it continues till Saturday, 11 May 2019.

Many people came together from around the world to participate in the Creative Commons Global Summit. The gathering was a chance for CC network members, digital rights activists, open content creators, and commons advocates to meet together, share information, and collaborate on projects. Since 2015, the CC Global Summit has nearly doubled in size. The Summit has grown every year as hundreds of leading activists, advocates, librarians, educators, lawyers, technologists, and more have joined for discussion and debate, workshops and planning, talks and community building.

He said, the Department of Archives and Library, maintaining the responsibility of preserving government gazettes, recruitment, policies, agreements, protocols, valuable records, documents, state and public information through archival management.

Seminar on Copyright Acts and Protecting Rights Held at National Museum, Dhaka

To celebrate International Book Day, National Book Centre of Ministry of Cultural Affairs organized a seminar on Copyright Acts and Protecting Rights on 23 April 2019 at Poet Sufia Kamal Auditorium, National Museum, Dhaka.

Dr Abu Hena Mostafa Kamal, NDC Secretary in Charge, Ministry of Cultural Affairs was the chief guest while poet Nirmalenda Gun was the special guest in the event.

Librarianship training Course at National Book Centre held

The Ministry of Cultural Affairs conducted a four days long “Librarianship training Course” from 9-12 April 2019 at National Book Centre, Bangabandhu Avenue, Dhaka. Twenty-two participants from eight different divisions of Bangladesh took part in the training. The participants were mainly from non-government public libraries which receive donations. These particular libraries are usually patronised by the ministry of cultural affairs under the National Book Centre.
