Dr. Md. Azizul Hakim Memorial Gold Medal launched at Dept. of ISLM, University of Dhaka

Another Gold Medal named “Dr Md. Azizul Hakim Memorial Gold Medal” has been established in the Department of Information Science and Library Management at the University of Dhaka. Ms Asuma Begum, wife of Late Dr Md. Azizul Hakim founded Dr Md. Azizul Hakim Memorial Gold Medal Trust Fund. On the occasion, a cheque handover ceremony was held on July 31, 2019, at 10:00 am at the Office of the Honorable Vice-Chancellor, University of Dhaka. A cheque worth BDT. 10 lac was handed over to Professor Dr Md. Kamal Uddin, Treasurer, the University of Dhaka with the presence of Honorable Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr Md. Akhtaruzzaman. Professor Dr Abu Md. Delwar Hosain, Dean, Faculty of Arts, Md. Enamuzzaman, Registrar (Acting), Professor Dr Kazi Mostak Gausul Hoq, Chairman of the Department and family members of Dr Md. Azizul Hakim were present in the ceremony. Other faculty members of the Department were also present in the program.

Year plan of National Book Centre held

National Book Centre, Ministry of Cultural Affairs organised a year plan event at Tofazzal Hossain Manik Miah Auditorium on 31 July 2019. Dr Abu Hena Mostafa Kamal, NDC, Secretary, Ministry of Cultural Affairs attended the event as the chief guest while Mr Farid Ahmed, President, Bangladesh Gyan O Sriginsil  Prokashok Samity  and Mr. Shyamol Pal, Vice President, Bangladesh Pustok Prokashok o Bikrata Samity were present as the special guests. The inaugural speech was given by Ms Suhita Sultana, Deputy Director, National Book Centre. Mr Minar Monsur, Director, National Book Centre conducted the session.

Training on Library based voluntarism held in Dhaka

Libraries Unlimited Project of British Council and Ministry of Cultural Affairs organised training on library-based voluntarism recently in Dhaka. The central concept is the power of community engagement for social development. Libraries Unlimited Programme is inspiring young people to make their own Social Action Projects for the development of public libraries in Bangladesh. It was an engaging conversation, indeed.

Drawing Words exhibition held in the city

As a part of the Drawing Words exhibition, the British Council Cultural Centre in collaboration with the Libraries Unlimited arranged a day-long training workshop for the Government Public Librarians recently in the city. Sara Mears, Programme Manager, facilitated this highly interactive workshop, Libraries Connected. The workshop mainly focused on family reading and how reading can be utilised for pleasure.
