Annie Cruze awarded the OpenCon 2018 Grant

Annie Cruze has been awarded the OpenCon 2018 partial grant and invited to attend the event as an early career academic professional.

Ms Annie Cruze, Library Assistant (Administration) American International School, Dhaka (AISD) is going to attend OpenCon 2018, at York University, Toronto, Ontario, Canada on 2 November 2018. The program will be hosted by Scholarly Publishing and Academic Resources Coalition (SPARC) in partnership with York University, Ryerson University, and the University of Toronto.

Ms Annie Cruze was selected as one of only 250 highly qualified participants from more than 13000 applicants from more than 175 countries over the world. It indicates her dedication and devotion to work to the profession. The conference is highly participatory where most attendees taking a leadership role in a session where Annie’s participation is pivotal for the success of the meeting.

Who is Annie Cruze?

After obtaining the graduation (BA-Hons) and MA from the University of Dhaka in Information Science and Library Management, Ms Annie started her professional career at the United Nations Information Centre (UNIC), Dhaka as Library Assistant. Later on, she started working for icddr,b as Elective Fellow under publications unit. She worked as School Librarian at St. Joseph Higher Secondary School, Mohammadpur, Dhaka and Scholastica Pvt. Ltd, Uttara, Dhaka before joining to AISD.

She is a life member of the Bangladesh Association of Librarians, Information Scientists, and Documentalists (BALID). Ms Cruze participated in ASYG(Asia-pacific Student and Youth Gathering) 2008 at Seoul in South Korea. She also participated in Asian Youth Day 2003 at Bangalore, India and Youth Christian Student Movement of South Asian Session 2001 in Bangladesh.

OpenCon 2018 grant award-winning is another success story of her and the Library profession of Bangladesh as well. As we know, OpenCon is organised by SPARC, a coalition of more than 230 academic and research libraries across the US and Canada working to promote a more open system of scholarly communication. SPARC is a project of the new venture fund; a non-profit organization based in Washington DC, her participation will increase our networking up to the mark.
