Dr Dilara Begum from the East West University represents Bangladesh as a ‘Standing Committee’ member in the ECIL Conferences

Dr Dilara Begum, Associate Professor and Chairperson, Dept. of Information Studies and Library Management & Librarian (In-charge), East West University has been selected as a ‘Standing Committee’ member of the European Conference on Information Literacy (ECIL) as an Information Literacy expert of Bangladesh. The conference was held on 24 to 27 September 2018 in Oulu, Finland.

 

ECIL is an annual conference which is held in different countries of Europe. At first, it was held in Istanbul, Turkey in 2013 under the patronage of UNESCO, and it has become a very strong and effective international advocate of information literacy (IL). The aim of this conference is to bring together researchers, information professionals, media specialists, educators, and policymakers from all around the world to exchange knowledge and experience and discuss current issues, recent developments, challenges, theories, and good practices on the themes of Information Literacy, Media Literacy and Lifelong Learning.

This conference committee includes IL experts from different countries and Dr Dilara has been representing Bangladesh as well as actively involving with ECIL as a standing committee member since 2013. In 2013 and 2015 she presented paper respectively and these were published in ECIL’s proceedings. The committee of this conference maintains a double-blind review process for all publications.

Dr. Begum is serving in numerous leadership roles including as General Secretary of Digital Library Network of South Asia (DLNetSA), Secretary of IFLA Information Literacy Section, Expert Member of Selection Board of Professor and Associate Professor, National University of Bangladesh, Expert Member of Curriculum Development Committee, Institute of Information Science, University of Noakhali Science and Technology, Bangladesh and so on.
