Inauguration of new building of Bangladesh Film Archives

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated Bangladesh Film Archive Building and Information Building under the Ministry of Information in Dhaka’s Agargaon area through video conferencing at her official Gonobhaban residence on 1st November 2018. The new building has been constructed at the cost of 86 crores 75 lakh taka, 1.86 acres of land at Agargaon in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Dhaka.

The purpose of establishment of the building is to save films and other materials over the centuries for the desired temperature. In addition to the specialized film Vault on the newly constructed building, there is a 500-seat super-multipurpose auditorium, a 300-seat project hall for regular film exhibitions and seminars, 120-seat seminar hall. Film-related research, discussion, seminar, symposium ceremony, film show, study, film aperture courses, film theater, film hospital, modern film checking room, digital film cleaning lab, film buffering zone, two film digitalization labs, alumni corners, festivals and a cine-center has been set up in the building with offices (secretaries), guest rooms, cafeteria and so on.

Before that Honorable Prime Minister of the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh laid down the foundation stone of the Bangladesh Film Archive Building at Agargaon on February 27 in 2013. Gradually the building will become a national historical heritage for filmmakers, producers, distributors, exhibitors, researchers and craftsmen. Through the promotion, campaign, exhibition and various events, the film archive will act as a bridge between history and historical audiovisual documents with the general public.
