It is with deep personal regret that Prof Mahbubur Rahman, Director General of Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE), died at a Singapore hospital on Saturday, 3 November 2018. Prof Mahbubur died after a long struggle with respiratory complications. Each of us not only grieves at the passing of an incredible individual for Bangladesh’s education sector but also for the loss his family suffers. He was only 57.

Mahbubur Rahman breathed his last around 12:20 pm (Bangladesh time) while undergoing treatment at Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore. The DG, who had been suffering from respiratory complications, was admitted to the hospital on September 24.

Professor Md. Mahbubur Rahman was present as the special guest at The Librarian Times 1st founding anniversary which was held on Friday, 2 February 2018 at Faculty of Business Studies Auditorium, University of Dhaka. In his speech, he focused on the importance of libraries and the role of librarians. He urged organizing this type of activity in Bangladesh to spread the significance of librarians.

Prof Md Mahbubur left behind a wife, a son, a daughter and a host of well-wishers to mourn his death. 

He concluded his speech by reciting a poem from his memory for wishing The Librarian Times inauguration and founding anniversary.

কর হানী দারে নবযুগ দাকিছে তোমারে

তোমার উত্থান মাগি,

ভবিষ্যৎ রহে প্রতিক্ষায়……
