The Celebration of National Library Day 2019 at the North South University

The Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh established 5 February as the National Library Day. The theme of the day for this year is, “গ্রন্থাগারে বই পড়ি, আলোকিত মানুষ গড়ি”। To celebrate the event for one week (3-9 February 2019) the NSU Library organized several activities, including –

 — Hanging banners at the NSU Campus

 — Promotion through NSU website, library website and social media

 — NSU Library decoration

 — Round the week one-stop instant Library User Services and

 — Seminar

 

On this auspicious day, The Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr Atiqul Islam, Pro Vice-Chancellor (D) Prof Dr Gias U. Ahsan of NSU inaugurated the day by cutting a cake in the Library. Both of them briefed the library family members and the users regarding the importance of the special day. They also mentioned for providing quality services and research support, training to the faculty and the students.

The NSU Library was fully decorated by colourful balloons, festoons, banners, etc. and arranged week-long instant, one-stop and attractive services towards the students and faculty members. The students were welcome by chocolates and flowers.

To commemorate National Library Day 2019, a seminar on the theme as mentioned above was held on 9 February 2019. The welcome speech was given by Dr Md. Zahid Hossain Shoeb, NSU Librarian. A.K.M. Rezaul Karim, Director, National Book Centre, Ministry of Cultural Affairs, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh and Mr Dilip Kumar Saha, Director General, Department of Archives and Library, Bangladesh were present as the special guests during the seminar. Professor Dr Emran Kabir Chowdhury, Vice-Chancellor, Comilla University was present as the chief guest. Prof. Dr Gias U. Ahsan, Pro Vice-Chancellor (D), NSU presided over the program.

Among others, deans, directors, chair of different departments, faculty members, officers, and students were presented. The event got very good media coverage in the national dailies in the country.
