Inauguration of the First International Conference on Information and Knowledge Management in Bangladesh

The Inaugural Ceremony of the 1st International Conference on Information and Knowledge Management (i-IKM 2019) was held at BPATC, Savar, Dhaka on 25 April 2019. The Conference is being jointly organized by the Bangladesh Public Administration Training Centre (BPATC) and the Department of the Information Studies and Library Management, East West University. Around 30 Invited Speakers from all around the world, 170 paper presenters and around 350 participants joined the Conference. This Conference is the first initiative taken in Bangladesh of its kind focusing on one of the burning issues of 21st Century, Agenda 2030.

Honourable Minister Mr M. A. Mannan, MP, Ministry of Planning, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh graced the Inaugural Ceremony as the Chief Guest.  Dr Mohammed Farashuddin, Chief Advisor and Founder Vice Chancellor of East West University was present at the event as the Inaugural Keynote Speaker. Professor Dr Fakrul Alam, Pro-Vice Chancellor of East West University graced the program as Special Guest.  The honourable Conference Advisor Dr M Aslam Alam, Rector, BPATC and Senior Secretary to the Government was present as the Inaugural Program Chair. The Conference Chairs, Dr Dilara Begum, Chairperson, Department of Information Studies and Library Management, East West University and Dr Sanwar Jahan Bhuiyan, Director (PPR), BPATC were also present at the occasion. The Chief Guest of the Program emphasized on the importance of Information and Knowledge Management for Sustainable development and also acknowledged the initiative taken by both the organizers. The Inaugural Keynote Speaker, Dr Mohammed Farashuddin highlighted the concept of Information Industry as a new paradigm of economic transformation in his speech.

The Inaugural program was followed by Cultural Event where participants from both organizations performed. The technical sessions of the Conference will start from 26 April 2019 and will end on 27 April 2019.

The theme of this conference is “Next Generation Information and Knowledge Dissemination to realize Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development”. The theme is focused to determine the significance of knowledge management strategy to accumulate, store, manage and disseminate the intellectual output of the knowledge society to attain the sustainable development goals. Inclusive knowledge society, transparent knowledge ecosystem and dynamic knowledge markets can play a vital role in achieving the Agenda 2030. The conference would provide a platform for the knowledge managers, policy makers, academicians and think tanks of the civil society to unite for sharing their expertise and innovative ideas to accelerate the development process.
