COVID-19 – A list of temporarily free resources

While the coronavirus pandemic continues to endanger and interrupt lives, publishers in all industries are working hard to make sure readers of all ages have a smooth transition experience.

There are special free and extended resources available from various platforms and vendors during the current Pandemic in the world.  On behalf of TLT, Syeda Mukta Begum has collected all the free resources links to share with LIS professionals, researchers, doctors and others for remote learning and access in the lockdown period. Below is a list of industry actions, which we will continue to update for all.

ACS Publications

Here are enclosed a collection of free to read online teaching chemistry teaching resources from the Journal of Chemical Education and the ACS Division of Chemical Education. There are also virtual issues of all articles related to Covid-19 from ACS Publications: Chemistry in Coronavirus Research: A Free to Read Collection from the American Chemical Society. This regularly updated collection includes journal articles, video resources, distance learning modules, etc.

 

American Economic Association (AEA)

In these unprecedented times, researchers, faculty and students may not have access to their institution’s print-only subscription to the AEA journals. To ensure access as academic semesters and various student projects conclude, the Association is making its available journal content open access on the AEA website through June 30, 2020.

American National Standards Institute (ANSI)

To support rapid response efforts to the COVID-19 pandemic, the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) is providing access to key international standards supporting the biological evaluation of medical devices; protective clothing used in health care settings; and business continuity management, security, and resilience. To access the portal, users must accept the license agreement and register. Once registered for the portal, users can return to the ANSI portal. ANSI has also launched a COVID-19 ANSI Resource Webpage highlighting activities of the U.S. standardization community in the fight against the pandemic. The asset page spotlights ANSI individuals’ exercises supporting general wellbeing, security, and foundation, and incorporates significant ANSI declarations, separation learning openings, and different assets.

American Physiological Society (APS)

APS Coronavirus-Related Collection: For the remote users world-wide, articles deliberating COVID‐19, coronavirus, SARS and other related research will be freely accessible as part of the coronavirus-related collection.

American Psychological Association (APA)

Collection of freely available APA journal articles: There are a collection of journal articles about during Pandemic the effects of economic stress on mental health, telehealth, and other topics related to the current crisis. For doctors, nurses and the general public, APA has a continually updated pandemics resource. Of particular interest maybe this article on “Seven crucial research findings that can help people deal with COVID-19“.

American Society for Microbiology (ASM)

Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) resources (ASM): ASM is giving free access to nearly 50 research articles published in the recent year in ASM’s 16 scholarly journals to help look into endeavours and interchanges about the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).

Annual Reviews

Annual Reviews has set up a resource centre for articles that are freely available: Research Support: Coronavirus primer (Annual Reviews)

ArtsHub

As COVID-19 cancels events and devastates in the community, ArtsHub’s mission is to double down in its support for the arts sector. COVID-19 freely available outside with new COVID-19 ArtsHub section to ensure free and easier access to the information.

Berghahn

OA to Berghahn e-books and journals: As expansions conversion to online, an increasing number of OA texts (many offered in both ePub and .pdf format) available for direct downloading.  In addition to those BOA journals available OA, all free access Berghahn Journals new issues and all back issues – will be made freely available through June 30.

Bezi Publishing Services

CEIC Data: Novel Coronavirus Outbreak Map: Explore CEIC Data’s interactive global map covering the number of confirmed cases, deaths, recovered patients and concentration of the CoVID-19 virus. It’s free and updated daily for the users.

Biochemical Society/Portland Press

To provide info on the Corona Virus, Credo Reference has been posting OA timely, science-based articles on COVID-19 on their website and blog.

Duke University Press

Here is the Duke university press free content reading list included is Navigating the Threat of Pandemic) and also opening all available content for East Asian Science, Technology and Society.

EBSCO

EBSCO would like to alleviate the impact of COVID-19 by extending free and expanded access to EBSCO academic content. These resources will help the students and faculty to adjust remote learning and researching.

Elsevier

Since January 2020 Elsevier has created a COVID-19 resource centre with free information in English and Mandarin on the novel coronavirus COVID-19. Elsevier Science Direct textbook list: Elsevier is opening up access to 256 textbooks on the Science Direct platform to help support institutions during the COVID-19 pandemic. These titles will be available free of charge for three months.

Emerald

Here is Emerald research on COVID-19 and the management of epidemics and pandemics free for anyone to access and have also made this available with full text and data mining rights to PubMed Central and the World Health Organisation repository.

Harvard Business Review E-books (EBSCO)

As universities shift quickly to online instruction, librarians have a key role to play in supporting faculty and students. In order to help in these challenging times, EBSCO and Harvard Business Publishing are pleased to offer libraries free unlimited user access to the Harvard Business Review E-Book Subscription Collection until May 30, 2020.

To support institutions during this challenging time, JSTOR and other participating publishers are making an expanded set of content freely available to COVID-19 expediting the release of a new set of 26 JSTOR journal archives in Public Health, making them openly accessible through June 30, 2020. Also, access more than 35,000 e-books and a range of journals until June 30, 2020. Just select from one of the participating publishers on the landing page to access their e-books and journals through JSTOR on a variety of subjects.

Karger

Karger has created a Topic Article Package for COVID: Topic Article Package (Karger): Coronavirus (COVID-19) 48 articles are freely available.

The Lancet

To assist health workers and researchers working under challenging conditions to bring this outbreak to a close, The Lancet has created a Lancet Coronavirus Resource Centre. This resource brings together new 2019 novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) content from across The Lancet journals as it is published. All content listed on this page is free to access.

LexisNexis

LexisNexis Offers Free, Comprehensive COVID-19 News Coverage and Practical Guidance Content from Law360 and Lexis Practice Advisor. With the coronavirus outbreak disrupting campus activities around the globe, the MIT Press is offering libraries complimentary access to the MIT Press Direct collection of eBooks through the end of May 2020 to support faculty and students who are working and learning remotely. MIT Press Direct e-books are available on a range of subjects.

NEJM

NEJM is providing a collection of articles and other resources on the Coronavirus (Covid-19) outbreak, including clinical reports, management guidelines, and commentary. Editorials, perspectives and original articles can be accessed free of charge.

New York Times

Free access to the most important news on the Coronavirus outbreak from the New York Times coronavirus page.

NLM

LitCovid is a curated literature hub for tracking up-to-date scientific information about COVID-19. It is the most comprehensive resource on the subject, providing central access to 1200 (and growing) relevant articles in PubMed.

OECD

The OECD has just established an OECD COVID-19 portal, gathering all relevant evidence, analysis and advice on policy responses published by the organization. All resources that are shown, including publications normally behind access control on OECD iLibrary, have been made fully accessible for the duration of the crisis.

Oxford University Press

With the recent coronavirus situation, Oxford University Press has made content from OUP online book resources and leading journals freely accessible to assist researchers, medical professionals, policymakers, and others who are working to address this health crisis

PLOS

Project Muse

ProQuest

Starting next week, ProQuest Ebook Central customers impacted by COVID-19 will get unlimited access to all owned titles from over 50 publishers through mid-June. Additionally, there is a list of authoritative ProQuest COVID-19 resources about the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Royal College of Nursing

This page provides RCN members with the information and resources to support their understanding of and management of COVID-19. Nurses are fundamental to informing the public and reassuring them about this outbreak. Although most resources are targeted at RNC members, there are lots of useful links.

Royal Society

The Royal Society has signed a Wellcome Statement on the subject of research findings and data relevant to the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak. This Royal Society special COVID-19 collection comprises some papers likely to be relevant to the outbreak.

RSNA

Due to the current shortage of nucleic acid testing kits used to confirm the presence of the 2019 Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19), CT scans have become the first line of defence in diagnosing a suspected infection. RSNA is currently processing peer-reviewed articles and cases of COVID-19 to provide the global radiology community with a free diagnostic resource to help prevent the spread of this outbreak and get more patients the care they need. Educational institutions across the world have had to move ongoing classes online in order to apply to social distancing measures introduced by governments.
