Digital Access to Research Workshop of the UN Technology Bank held at SUST
A two-day Workshop on Digital Access to Research held on 6-7 November at SUST Research Centre, Shahjalal University of Science & Technology, SUST, Sylhet. The workshop was organised by the United Nations Technology Bank for the Least Developed Countries (UNTBLDC). It was the 2nd workshop of UNTBLDC in Bangladesh. The 1st one was held on 30-31 October at BUET, Dhaka.
The purpose of the workshop was to raise awareness about the Research4Life platform and to provide training on how to access and use the platform. Research4Life is the collective name for five research programmes viz. HINARI, AGORA, OARE, ARDI and GOALI, managed by WHO, FAO, UNEP, WIPO & ILO, which provide developing countries with free or low-cost access to academic and professional content online including e-Books.
A total of 28 participants (23 male & 5 female) attended the workshop from 5 universities, 5 medical colleges, 1 dental college and 2-degree colleges of Sylhet city. Among the participants, there were 16 library professionals, 9 faculty members and 3 IT professionals. Dr Md. Nazim Uddin, Senior Manager, ICDDR,B , Mr Shah Abdul Kabej, Deputy Librarian, BUET & Country Focal Point, Digital Access to Research, Bangladesh and Mr Md. Abdul Hayee Sameni, Librarian (PRL), SUST & Country Focal Point, Digital Access to Research, Bangladesh were the resource persons of the workshop.
The workshop was inaugurated on 6 November by Professor Farid Uddin Ahmed, Vice-Chancellor, SUST as the Chief Guest and Professor Dr Anowarul Islam, Treasurer, Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) distributed the certificates among the participants on 7 November as the Chief Guest of the certificate awarding ceremony. Professor Dr S M Saiful Islam, Director SUST Research Centre chaired the inaugural and certificate awarding ceremony. On behalf of UNTBLDC the workshop was conducted & managed by Mr Md. Abdul Hayee Sameni.
