Md. Ahasan Habib has been promoted to Library In-Charge (Head of the library) of the university library for Islamic University of Technology, Gazipur (Bangladesh) effective on July 15, 2020.

The Islamic University of Technology or IUT is an educational and research institution in Bangladesh run and funded by the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). The university is considered as one of the leading and prestigious PhD granting engineering universities in the country.

Recently, the authority of IUT announced Mr Md. Ahasan Habib as Library In-Charge (Head of Library) of its Library and Documentation Office. Mr Ahasan brings 16 years of academic library service experience to his new role assisting to oversee the university learning and teaching improvement. He started his journey as Library officer at IUT in 2010. Later, he was promoted to Assistant Librarian in the same university. Prior to joining IUT, Mr Ahasan worked for the different university libraries including East West University, State University of Bangladesh and Bangladesh Institute of Medical and Dental Technology (BIMDT).

Besides his mainstream job, he is actively involved in several voluntary activities in the library community including Secretary, Association of Information Science and Technology (asis&t)-South Asia Chapter, Finance Secretary, Bangladesh Association Librarians, Information Scientists and Documentalists (BALID) and Associate Editor of the Librarian Times (TLT). Mr Ahasan has also a tremendous contribution to the National Dailies in Bangladesh on the State of the Art and Technology by writing columns in the professional field. In addition, Mr Ahasan has been performing in several official assignments for IUT in Dhaka and its headquartered in Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) for many years.

Mr Ahasan completed a bachelor and master’s degree in Information Science and Library Management through the University of Dhaka. He earned a Master of Business Administration (MBA)degree from East West University (Session 2006-08), Dhaka.

Mr Ahasan welcomed the announcement and said, “I am happy and excited about the new role. And at the same time, a bit nervous to accept the challenges. I would like to thank the IUT authority for selecting me as the new head of the library. I am looking forward to working closely with my colleagues and team to fulfil the IUT’s goals.”

We also strongly believe Mr Ahasan has the right skill set to lead the IUT library. TLT team congratulates Mr Ahasan on his promotion for the vital role and wishes him for his continued success.
