Celebration National Library Day 2021 and inauguration ceremony of the newly elected LAB council held in Dhaka

On February 6, 2021- Library Association of Bangladesh (LAB) organised a grandiose program at Shawkat Osman Auditorium, Shahbagh, Dhaka to celebrate National Library Day-2021 under the theme ‘library in every house is the pledge of Mujib year’. On the same day, an inauguration ceremony of newly elected LAB council was held arranged by LAB for the first time in its history.
Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury, MP- honourable Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Education was present as the chief guest in this momentous program. Md Abu Bakar Siddique, Director General (Additional Secretary), Department of Public Library, Dr M. Nasiruddin Munshi, Senior Professor and Librarian (Acting), University of Dhaka, Dr Md. Nasiruddin Mitul, Dean- National University were present at the event as the special guests. Dr Mizanur Rahman, President of, Library Association of Bangladesh (LAB) presided over the program.
All Guests dedicated their wonderful speeches to library professionals mentioning how the librarians contribute the society as the noble profession. The chief guest described the various roles of libraries and librarians and requested all to go back to the libraries instead of confusingly relying on the internet in order to ensure accurate and trustworthy information.
Convinced to the demands of the librarians, Honourable Minister assured that the demand of the librarians will be looked upon by him considering their(librarians) enormous contribution to the society.
Other special guests also inspired the audience with their valuable speeches at the event. The guests spoke about the importance of celebrating the National Library Day and the positives effects of different activities of Libraries in the society.
Dr M. Nasiruddin Munshi praised the current LAB committee for their great effort. Md. Abu Bakar Siddique encouraged the new generation to build their reading habits by sharing his experience of reading in the library. Mohiuddin Hawlader, Vice-president of LAB, thanked everyone for the successful arrangement of the event.
Kazi Abdul Mazed, Vice-president of LAB and convener of this program thanked everyone for joining this event. He also mentioned in his speech that ‘once there was a budget scarcity for library development. But, as the scenario has changed now, hence, many mega projects are going on for the library development in the country, which is definitely a positive side for our profession’.
Dr Mizanur Rahman, President-LAB, announced the closing of the first session with thanks. In his closing speech, he again promised that the new LAB committee will work hard to achieve the highest respect and status of the librarians.
Dr Nasiruddin Mitul, Dean- National University, moderated the second session, where all newly elected board member received crest and introduced themselves.
The program concluded with an eye-catching cultural function, where the renowned singer of the country Doly Sayontoni, performed.
