ASIS&T 24-Hour Global Conference: Call for Proposals

The 24-Hours Global Conference 2022 aims to promote networking among individuals, organizations, and institutions. This is a fully virtual conference available for both ASIS&T members and non-members. The conference, like its name, will run over a 24-hour period and will cover all time zones. The format of participation is varied to support numerous ways of learning, engagement, and sharing. Accepted formats include, but are not limited to:

  • Paper presentations
  • Panel discussions
  • Provocation sessions
  • Poster presentations
  • Professional work shadowing
  • Illustrations
  • Lightning talks
  • Webinars

Call for Proposals

Participants are encouraged to think outside the box and be creative in showcasing what is happening in their region in the advent of the COVID-19 pandemic and information sciences. Collaborations are encouraged among colleagues, and across disciplines.

Topics relevant to the theme include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Networking in virtual environments
  • Sharing for learning
  • Learning though networking
  • Role of social networking in enhancing professional skills
  • Digital humanities
  • Artificial Intelligence and new technologies
  • Collaborative information seeking, human collaboration and cooperation
  • Networking around the globe: opportunities and challenges
  • Becoming agents of change in the COVID-19 pandemic
  • Building for the future
  • Creating Connections, Building Bridges…Together
  • Facing the Future – Together
  • Inclusive and Equitable Practices during COVID-19
  • Role of innovative leadership in networking and sharing

Please submit a short abstract (maximum 500 words) indicating the format of presentation. Include the names of all presenters, including their affiliation, country and email address.

Celebration of Sound: Public Domain Day *Virtual* Celebration

About this event

On January 20, 2022, the Internet Archive, Creative Commons and many other leaders from the Open world will honor the treasure trove of works published in 1926 that will enter the public domain next year. The public domain will grow richer with canonical works from authors like Hemingway, Faulkner and Dorothy Parker, silent film classics like Nanook of the North, and beloved children’s stories about Winnie-the Pooh and the Hundred Acre woods, becoming freely available to all.

2022 ASIS&T Annual Meeting 28 October – November 2, 2022

The Annual Meeting of the Association for Information Science and Technology will be held from 28 October – November 2, 2022 in Pittsburgh, PA. In its 85th year, the ASIS&T Annual Meeting is the premier education and networking event for the information science and technology community.  The Annual Meeting of the Association for Information Science and Technology is the premier international conference dedicated to the study of information, people, and technology in contemporary society.

Acceleration of health information literacy a webinar held

An international webinar entitled “Acceleration of health information literacy: preparing multi-lingual covid-19 contents for South Asia region” was held virtually on December 18, 2021. The program was jointly organized by the Association of Information Science and Technology (ASIS&T) South Asia Chapter and the Department of Information Science and Library Management, University of Dhaka.
Professor Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman, Vice-Chancellor, University of Dhaka, remained present as Chief Guest. Professor Dr. Md. Nasiruddin Munshi, Department of Information Science and Library Management & Librarian (In-Charge) of Dhaka University Library, was present as Special Guest.
The keynote paper was presented by Dr. Samuel K. W. Chu, Associate Professor, Faculty of Education, University of Hong Kong. Dr. Bhakti Gala, Assistant Professor, Central University of Gujarat, India, delivered the welcome speech at the beginning of the program.

Saiful Islam, Chairman of ISLM Department, DU, Dr. Dilara Begum, Chairman, Department of Information Studies and Library Management, East-West University, A.K.M. Eamin Ali Akanda, Chairman of ISLM Department, RU and Razina Alam, Head of Library, Bangladesh Shishu Academy discussed on the keynote topic as panellists.

Safinoor Sagorika awarded PhD Degree

Ms. Safinoor Sagorika, a former student of the Department of Information Science and Library Management, University of Dhaka, and life member of LAB and BALID, has been awarded a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree under the Graduate School of Advanced Science and Technology, by Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (JAIST), Japan on 24 December 2021. Her primary research topic was “Design and Development of Video Aided Retention Support System for Enhancing Disaster Survival Skills (DSS) Among International Students” which is a tiny part of the system engineering mainly focused on “learning technology“.

As per the degree requirement, Dr. Sagorika also conducted her minor research project on “Adopting Orphan Migrants in Japanese Elderly Care Services: A Diversified Model for Ishikawa Prefecture”. She attended four international conferences in Thailand, Turkey, and Japan during her PhD journey and published four international conference proceedings. She also authored three journal articles from major research. In addition, she has successfully completed 22 credits from 11 courses.
