The Library and Information Science (LIS) legend ADM Ali Ahammad is no more!

The Library and Information Science (LIS) legend Mr ADM Ali Ahammad, Vice president of Library Association of Bangladesh (LAB); Project Component Lead, British Council Unlimited Project is no more. He died on Sunday, March 3, 2019, at Square Hospital, Dhaka. He had a stroke while taking a training class at the British Council. Since then, he was undergoing treatment at Life Support at Square Hospital. The first namaz-e-janaza of AML Ali Ahammad was held on Tuesday at the Public Library, Dhaka. The 2nd namaz-e-janaza was held in Mymensingh and 3rd namaz-e-janaza was held at his village, Gafargaon. He left his one son and one daughter and wife Anjuman Ara Zakia in his family.

He was born on 1 October 1962. His Father late Abdus Sobhan was a Union Parishad chairman and mother Jahanara Begum was a housewife. He completed his master’s degree in library and Information Science (Current name Information Science and Library Management) from the University of Dhaka in 1982. He started his early carrier from the Bangladesh Institute of International and Strategic Studies (BIISS).

He was the founder member of the Institute of Library and Information Science, Chittagong Division. Apart from this, he served as a part-time teacher in different LIS institutions under the National University of Bangladesh.

In addition to this, he was a professional writer and a tremendous reader.  He has written a number of books and journal articles. His written books about LIS topics and issues are very effective and useful for the LIS students and professionals as well.

The devoted LIS leader was a life member in a number of associations including IFLA, ALA, BALID and other professional bodies in the world. Mr Ahammad visited a range number of different countries for professional development in this profession.
