Librarianship training Course at National Book Centre held

Ahasan, Dhaka, 12 May 2019

The Ministry of Cultural Affairs conducted a four days long “Librarianship training Course” from 9-12 April 2019 at National Book Centre, Bangabandhu Avenue, Dhaka. Twenty-two participants from eight different divisions of Bangladesh took part in the training. The participants were mainly from non-government public libraries which receive donations. These particular libraries are usually patronised by the ministry of cultural affairs under the National Book Centre.

State Minister for Culture Mr KM Khalid, MP on Sunday said “The government is taking effective measures to appoint professional librarian in every institute aiming to develop the reading habit. As per education policy 2010, each of the educational institutions, we have recruited librarians who are most of the cases unprofessional and unskilled. We are giving the opportunity to them to take appropriate organization those have unauthorized certificates in the field of Library Science. People should give concentration on library and books instead of cell phones in daily life.”

The Inaugural Ceremony of the 1st International Conference on Information and Knowledge Management (i-IKM 2019) was held at BPATC, Savar, Dhaka on 25 April 2019. The Conference is being jointly organized by the Bangladesh Public Administration Training Centre (BPATC) and the Department of the Information Studies and Library Management, East West University. Around 30 Invited Speakers from all around the world, 170 paper presenters and around 350 participants joined the Conference. This Conference is the first initiative taken in Bangladesh of its kind focusing on one of the burning issues of 21st Century, Agenda 2030.

Shaheed Professor Anudwipayan Bhattacharya Memorial Library and the office complex of the Provost of Jagannath Hall, both renovated with Government of India assistance have been inaugurated at Jagannath Hall, the University of Dhaka on 25 April 2019 Thursday. High Commissioner Smt Riva Ganguly Das and Professor Dr Md. Akhtaruzzaman, Vice Chancellor, University of Dhaka were present and inaugurated the both on that occasion.
