Shah Abdul Kabej wins TLT Excellence Academic Librarian Award 2021 (Academic Librarian of the Year Award)

The award selection committee of the Library Association of Bangladesh (LAB) has nominated Shah Abdul Kabej for “TLT Excellence Academic Librarian of the Year Award for 2021” to contribute toward the Arena of Academic Library in Bangladesh. The award includes a crest, 10000 BDT, certificate and gifts by the event sponsor. Recipients of the award will be invited to an event at the Department of Information Science and Library Management, the University of Dhaka in due course. 

He is currently working as Deputy Librarian at the Central Library of the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET). Mr Kabej started his career as an Assistant Librarian at DUET in 1992 ad later in 2000, he joined his BUET and promoted to his current position. During this period, he was involved with numerous activities to make BUET Central Library a modern one. In 2003, institutionally, he registered the research4life and DOAJ, which was the first e-resources for the BUET Central Library. He also worked as a team member of the BUET Library to develop and customise the software named BUETLIB, which was established until the KOHA implementation. As a Sub-project Manager of HEQEP (2nd Phase) titled “Digitisation of the Central Library of BUET,” he played a vital role in establishing the RFID systems and digitisation systems in the BUET Library. Besides, the has played a crucial role in being a member of LiCoB (BIPC) in the year 2007 and set up the systems which is a big e-resource of BUET Central Library.

He earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Gurudoyal Govt. College, Kishoregonj, and a Master of Arts in Library and Information Science from the University of Dhaka. He attended a- three months international training program on “Scientific and Technological Information Management in Universities and Libraries: an Active Training Environment” (STIMULATE 2) at Vrije University Brussels, Belgium, organised by the University of Development Co-operation, Brussels, held from October 2002 to December 2002. Besides, he participated in numerous training programs in other countries like Taiwan, India on various occasions. He also attended several seminars, training, and workshop arranged by the University Grants Commission (UGC), Bangladesh Academy of Science (BAS), Centre on Integrated Rural Development for Asia and the Pacific (CIRDAP), Association For Survey & Programming Systems Center, Multifarious Technical Institute and many more.

He has held leadership positions on many professional association committees, including the Library Association of Bangladesh (Vice-president, 2012-2014), The Higher. Education Quality Enhancement Project (University Sub-Project Manager). He is also a Life member of “Library Association of Bangladesh (LAB)” and a soul devotee to the library profession.
