LABiCon2022 held at Dhaka

An international conference on the role of LIS professionals in the 4th Industrial Revolution (LABiCon2022) was held at the Institution of Engineers, Dhaka, Bangladesh, on 11 February 2022. Library Association of Bangladesh (LAB), a leading library professional association in Bangladesh, organised the conference in a hybrid mood.
The inaugural ceremony of the conference started at 11 AM where Mr A.K.M. Mozammel Haque, MP, Honorable Minister of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, Ministry of Liberation War Affairs, was present as the chief guest. Honourable Education minister Doctor Dipu Moni, MP, also joined the program virtually and delivered her speech. Dr Nasiruddin Mitul, Professor, School of Undergraduate Studies at National University Bangladesh, presented the keynote paper at the inaugural ceremony.
Thirty-two invited and research papers were presented across the six technical sessions. Diversified issues related to the fourth industrial revolution and LIS professionals’ roles were highlighted and discussed in these sessions. More than three hundred registered delegates were present in the program. Apart from Bangladesh, the research scholars from the USA, Canada, Mexico, Sweden, Indonesia, South Africa, Bosnia Herzegovina, and India participated in the technical sessions and shared their insights, practices and experiences from their respective countries.
Dr S.M. Mannan, Dr M. Nasiruddin Munshi, Dr Kazi Mostak Gausul Hoq, Dr Md. Saiful Islam, Professor, Dept. of Information Science and Library Management, University of Dhaka, A. K. M. Eamin Ali Akanda, Chairman, Dept. of Information Science and Library Management, University of Rajshahi, Dr Dilara Begum, Associate Professor, Dept. of Information Studies and Library Management, East West University chaired the various sessions of the conference.
The conference’s closing ceremony was held at 5.00 PM, where the state minister of Cultural Affairs of Bangladesh, K. M. Khalid, MP, was present as the chief guest. Dr Md Mizanur Rahman, President, Library Association of Bangladesh (LAB), chaired the closing program.
Dr Dilara Begum, Associate Professor and Chairperson, Department of Information Studies and Library Management, East West University, Bangladesh, was the convener of the whole event.
