Hi everyone, I am Prodip Roy, currently, I work as the Library Officer at RMIT University, Melbourne, Australia. I am also a part-time PhD candidate in Business Information Systems studying under the School of Accounting, Information Systems and Supply Chain at RMIT University. I was born and raised in Bangladesh and in 2009 I migrated to Australia as a qualified librarian. I have been working as a Library Professional in Local and State Government as well as the tertiary education sector in Australia and overseas for sixteen years. Besides my regular job and study, I have been a Delegate and branch committee member of The National Tertiary Education Union, Australia for the RMIT branch. I am the Co-Chair(Elect) SIG-III, Association for Information Science & Technology (ASIS&T), a member of Creative Commons Global Network, an existing member for Creative Commons Australia Chapter and lead responsible for Open Ed (Tertiary). As the founder and Editor in Chief, I lead The Librarian Times team in implementing its vision and mission.

Today, Bangladesh is celebrating the national library day 2020. What is the next step in libraries’ commitment to being an active force in the delivery of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) in the country? It’s a time to consider sketching targets for libraries 2020-2030 for sustainable development goals.

The United Nations (UN) held a meeting in New York at the end of September 2019 for the adoption of the 2030 Agenda with a total of 169 Targets spanning economic, environmental and social development. They outlined a plan for all countries to actively work to make the world better for the people, without anyone left behind.

For the mentioned financial year, they have secured the first position among the 17 divisions and organs under the Ministry of Cultural Affairs.

Policy workshop held for the formulation of national policy for public libraries

The British Council’s Libraries Unlimited Programme and the Department of Public Libraries have organised a workshop titled “Policy Workshop on the Formulation of a National Policy for Public Libraries” at the Westin Hotel Dhaka, recently. The objective of this day-long workshop was to review the draft policy for public libraries and collect recommendations from the stakeholders.

Begum Akhtar Jahan, former Member of Parliament and Deputy Librarian receives Begum Rokeya Padak 2019

Begum Akhter Jahan-a librarian, politician, freedom fighter and a social worker received Begum Rokeya Padak 2019.

Prime Minister Sheik Hasina handed over to five people the prestigious Begum Rokeya Padak for their outstanding contributions to the empowerment of society and women. The award ceremony, marking the 139th birth and 87th death anniversary of Begum Rokeya Shakhawat Hossain.
