Bibliometrics: The possibility of researchers and library professionals (বিবলিওমেট্রিকস: গবেষক ও গ্রন্থাগার পেশাজীবীদের সম্ভাবনা )

Session Description

The Librarian Times in collaboration with the Gyantapas Abdur Razzaq Bidyapeeth would like to extend an invitation to a seminar that will address the topic of bibliometrics. This seminar is intended to focus on the growing demand for publication analysis and research impact measurement that has led advanced libraries in the world to offer bibliometric services to their stakeholders. The resource persons will focus on the theoretical development and demonstrate several aspects of bibliometrics to create awareness in Bangladesh, for example, bibliometrics use by the library professionals and researchers, way to increase number of researches in bibliometrics, necessity to allocate bibliometric related courses at the honors and master level, initiate training programs on bibliometrics.

Panel Discussion

On the second half of the seminar, there will be a panel discussion and open forum where the participants can ask their questions and contribute to the discussion.

Meeting with Librarians and Students held at UGC, Dhaka

A fruitful meeting with Librarians and students (from each institute) of UDL beneficiaries held on Wednesday 12th December 2018 at UGC Auditorium. Concerned Members of UGC, PD (HEQEP), project officials and World Bank officials were present at the meeting. A good number of library professionals including Mr. Hossam Haider Chowdhury, Librarian, Independent University of Bangladesh(IUB), Dr. Mirza Mohd. Rezaul Islam, Librarian, Islamic University of Technology (IUT), Dr. Md. Anwarul Islam, Librarian, Sher-e Bangla Agriculture University, Ms. Hasina Afroz, BRAC University were present along with others.

World Bank authority likes to know the outcomes of their support. Students and librarians gladly participated in the discussion.

Meeting with Prof. Dr Javed Iqbal Khan and Library professionals held in Dhaka

On the arrival of Dr Javed Iqbal Khan, Professor and Chair, Kent State University, United States of America a meeting with Library professionals of Bangladesh was held on 21 November 2018 at Cinnamon Restaurant, Mohakhali, Dhaka.

Mr Khan was greeted by the library professionals in Bangladesh. Different professional issues including University Grants Commission Consortia, how it will sustainable, world bank issue were discussed in this meeting. Prof. Khan was interested in knowing the librarian’s thinking in relation to the development of the sector.

A colourful fresher’s reception, farewell program and certificated giving ceremony for the students of On-Campus Postgraduate Diploma in Library and Information Science program was held on 29 November 2018 at Senate Hall of the National University with great fervour and enthusiasm. Honourable guest Dr Md Mashiur Rahman, Pro Vice-Chancellor of Bangladesh National University delivered his thoughtful speech to the students. Students are the life of the campus, he mentioned.

Three Library professionals have been awarded, M.Phil Degree. The Degree was given to the researchers from a syndicate meeting with Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University Professor Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman in the chair on October 31, 2018. The degree holders are Mr. Shafiur Rahman, Senior Information Officer, International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease and Research, Bangladesh icddr,b, Ms. Syeda Mukta Begum, Librarian, International School Dhaka, and Muhammad Burhan Uddin, Assistant Director, Bangladesh Bank Library.
