TLT has published its digital souvenir on the occasion of TLTs 4th Anniversary and awards celebration 2021. TLT celebrated this event in the 50th year of independence of Bangladesh, so the celebration was especially memorable for the LIS community of Bangladesh. Global leaders working in the library and information sector have sent their congratulatory speeches and wishing messages for the digital souvenir.
Professor S M Mannan has been selected as the recipient of the 2021 Dr Md. Nazim Uddin Memorial Academic of the year award. He has been recognised as one of the most influential LIS academics in Bangladesh of all time. Bangladesh Association of Librarians, Information Scientists and Documentalists (BALID) has nominated him for this award for his outstanding teaching and learning contribution and dedication to the country’s LIS community.
Muhammad Hossam Haider Chowdhury, who was one of the selection committee members, said, “Professor S M Mannan has a strong influence on Bangladesh’s library profession. He maintains relations with the people from the library professionals, somewhat out of the library profession. His networking capacity is highly appreciable of all time. His leadership in the library profession of Bangladesh is unquestionable.”
The Department of Information Science and Library Management, Rajshahi University, Bangladesh, has nominated Raihana Khatun for the Dr Md. Nazim Uddin Memorial Award: Student of the year award, 2021.
Raihana Khatun has completed B.S.S. (Honors) with CGPA of 3.64 (on a scale of 4) in 2018 and M.S.S. with a CGPA of 3.76 (on a scale of 4) in 2019 in Information Science and Library Management, University of Rajshahi, Bangladesh. In both the B.S.S. (Honors) and M.S.S. program, she secured the first position with the highest CGPA. Besides this academic achievement, she also took part in extra-curricular activities of the department.
The Department of Information Science and Library Management of the University of Dhaka has nominated Shammy Akhter Shikha for Dr Md. Nazim Uddin Memorial Student of the Year Award 2021.
Ms Akter completed a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Information Science and Library Management in 2019 by obtaining the highest CGPA (3.94 on a scale of 4.00). She maintained her outstanding academic performance in each semester from beginning to end. She passed her both SSC and HSC examination from Vikarunnesa Noon School and College with a GPA of 5.00 in 2013 and 2015, respectively.
AFM Kamrul Hasan has been nominated by The School Library Association of Bangladesh (SLABD) for TLT School Librarian of the Year 2021 Award. The award includes a crest, 10000 BDT, certificate and gifts by the event sponsor. Recipients of the award will be invited to an event at the Department of Information Science and Library Management, the University of Dhaka in due course.
He is currently serving as an Assistant Librarian (Assistant Teacher, Library and Information Science, new name) in a reputed high school in Bangladesh. Before that, he was a Junior teacher in a high school and a field officer at Association for Rural Poor (ARP).
He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Gurudoyal Govt. College, Kishoregonj under the National University of Bangladesh and a Diploma in Library and Information Science from the IshaKha International University, Bangladesh.
The Medical Library Association of Bangladesh has selected Monirul Islam for the Medical Librarian of the Year 2021 Award for excellence in contributing to Bangladesh’s medical library arena. The award includes a crest, 10000 BDT, certificate and gifts by the event sponsor.
Mr Islam is working as Librarian in Army Medical College, Chattogram. He started his career as an Assistant Library Officer at Daffodil International University in 2011, and later in 2013; he was promoted to Library Officer. He was also an adjunct faculty of Library and Information Science at the International Islamic University of Chittagong from 2017 to 2019.
He obtained both a Bachelor and Master of Arts in Information Science & Library Management from the University of Dhaka. Later, he received a Master of Philosophy in Information Science & Library Management from the Department of Information Science & Library Management from the University of Dhaka. He is currently pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy program in the same discipline.
The Library Association of Bangladesh (LAB) has selected ABM Shafiq Alam for the Special Librarian of the Year 2021 Award for his excellence in contributing to the Special Library arena. The award includes a crest, 10000 BDT, certificate and gifts by the event sponsor. Recipients of the award will be invited to an event at the Department of Information Science and Library Management, the University of Dhaka in due course.
Mr Alam is currently working as a Senior Documentation Officer at Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies. Earlier, he worked as Librarian at, National Institute of Kidney Diseases & Urology, Sher-e –Bangla Nagar Dhaka. Earlier in his career, he worked as Library Assistant at BIRDEM Diabetic Association Hospital library, Dhaka in and as a research assistant in a couple of projects governed by BRAC research and development. He also worked as a Librarian and lecturer of library science Govt. Shahid Abdur Rab Teachers’ Training College, Barisal, Bangladesh.
The Dept. of Public Libraries, Ministry of Cultural Affairs has nominated Sazzadul Karim for the Public Librarian of the Year 2021 Award in recognising his accomplishment in the public library sector in Bangladesh. The award includes a crest, 10000 BDT, certificate and gifts by the event sponsor. Recipients of the award will be invited to an event at the Department of Information Science and Library Management, the University of Dhaka in due course.
He has been working in spreading the public library movement among the country’s mass people through the public library’s different activities and campaigns since his joining the Dept. of Public Libraries, Ministry of Cultural Affairs.
The award selection committee of the Library Association of Bangladesh (LAB) has nominated Shah Abdul Kabej for “TLT Excellence Academic Librarian of the Year Award for 2021” to contribute toward the Arena of Academic Library in Bangladesh. The award includes a crest, 10000 BDT, certificate and gifts by the event sponsor. Recipients of the award will be invited to an event at the Department of Information Science and Library Management, the University of Dhaka in due course.
He is currently working as Deputy Librarian at the Central Library of the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET). Mr Kabej started his career as an Assistant Librarian at DUET in 1992 ad later in 2000, he joined his BUET and promoted to his current position. During this period, he was involved with numerous activities to make BUET Central Library a modern one. In 2003, institutionally, he registered the research4life and DOAJ, which was the first e-resources for the BUET Central Library. He also worked as a team member of the BUET Library to develop and customise the software named BUETLIB, which was established until the KOHA implementation. As a Sub-project Manager of HEQEP (2nd Phase) titled “Digitisation of the Central Library of BUET,” he played a vital role in establishing the RFID systems and digitisation systems in the BUET Library. Besides, the has played a crucial role in being a member of LiCoB (BIPC) in the year 2007 and set up the systems which is a big e-resource of BUET Central Library.
